What this site is, how it is put together, where the numbers come from and what it is not.
What this is
The Chain Universe is an independent educational hub for crypto. It brings together live market data, short plain-English profiles of the largest real projects, beginner lessons and a compare tool. It is also the front door to a network of 16 single-project guide sites, listed on the Our sites page.
The aim is simple: help an ordinary person understand what each project actually is, without hype, jargon or sales pressure.
How projects are chosen
The directory covers roughly the fifty largest projects by market value as of October 2026, plus every project that has a dedicated guide in our network. Three rules shape the list:
- No memecoins. Tokens whose value rests mainly on jokes and attention are left out of the tables, the movers and the trending list.
- Stablecoins are their own category. They are tracked, but kept apart from projects whose price is meant to move.
- No wrapped or duplicate assets. Staked, bridged and wrapped versions of the same coin are not listed separately. Exchange-only tokens are mostly left out.
Each project is tagged with one or more categories: Layer 1, DeFi, Privacy, AI, Infrastructure / Oracles, Institutional / RWA, Payments, Stablecoins. Categories are a navigation aid, not a judgement.
Where the data comes from
Every live number on this site, including prices, percentage changes, market values, sparklines, global totals and trending searches, is requested directly by your browser from the public CoinGecko API. It refreshes about every 75 seconds while a page is open.
The free API is sometimes rate-limited or blocked by ad blockers. When that happens the site shows the last figures your browser saved, clearly labelled with their time, or a dash if there are none. Prices can be delayed and should never be relied on for trading.
The 'market mood' reading is our own simple summary: the share of tracked projects that are up over 24 hours and their average move. It describes today and predicts nothing.
How the written facts are checked
Profiles, lessons and the fact bank were checked in October 2026 against official project sites, public filings and reputable reporting, and against the in-depth guides in our network. Where a point could not be confirmed it was softened or left out. Crypto changes quickly, so treat dates and figures as a snapshot and confirm anything important with the project's official site.
Your privacy
There are no accounts. Your watchlist, filters, lesson progress and quiz score are stored only in your own browser and are never sent to us. The site uses Google Analytics to count visits. Your browser also contacts CoinGecko for prices and Google Fonts for typefaces.
